What is The "Hunger Hormone" and how is it Related to the Gastric Bypass Procedure
The Ghrelin Hormone, (also referred to as the "hunger hormone," tells the brain when to eat and when to stop eating. The Gastric Bypass procedure helps the Ghrelin hormone, which is secreted by the stomach, to cycle more normally. Morbidly Obese individuals may have difficulty knowing when to stop eating due to a Ghrelin hormone imbalance. Following the Gastric Bypass surgery, patients report a newly discovered sense of satiety after ingesting food. This phenomenon suggests that the gastric bypass helps balance Ghrelin hormone levels.
